Homecoming Dance
Homecoming Parade
Later on after the rally, the Homecoming parade winds its way through the streets of Rumford and ends up at the Hosmer Field Athletic Complex. Each class has a float in a competition. The theme this year was the TV show "Survivor." The football team won big in the rainy match--today's soccer match was canceled due to foul weather. The dance starts this evening at 7pm.

Another Thursday Evening on Prospect Ave
Telstar Match -- More than soccer
This evening's soccer match came with the news that one of the Telstar players, Bryce Walker, had been diagnosed with leukemia at the beginning of the week. He began chemotherapy today. In a great show of respect and friendship, the Mountain Valley team all signed a game ball and presented it to the Telstar captains for Bryce.
Telstar had beaten MVHS earlier in the year in a game in which Alexander was injured. MV lost 7-4. Today's match, the Falcon boys played brilliantly in the first half. A lot of purposeful passing, great communication, and a terrific goal by Rafael, a Brazilian exchange student, put the Falcons up 1-nil. Telstar equalized near the half-time. And just a the half, 1st-year keeper Kyle got smacked in goal while saving a goal....he's seen here after the collision checking to see if he still has teeth! The match ended 3-1 in favor of Telstar, but it was an entertaining match and well played on both sides. We're all thinking about Telstar's Bruce Walker as he begins seven months of a real battle.

Homecoming Details
[Click on photos to enlarge: "Refrigerator Art" by Peter]
It's Homecoming Week at Mountain Valley High School. Each day the students wear a different outfit to school--for example, one day it's camouflage (How American is that? Cowboys...) and the next may be the jersey of a favorite sports team. Friday ends with a typical American high school sports rally in the gym with cheerleaders, bands, and contests (games) among the various classes (9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th). On Friday, kids wear the school colors (cobalt blue & silver). Saturday night is the homecoming dance and both boys have opted, so far, to wear white shirts and ties. (They went to the mall on Saturday night to search for "dress-up" clothes or what Rich calls "Big boy clothes." Now that was a good time.) Anyway, no jeans allowed at this affair. They've also chosen to go with friends from the soccer team. It'll be a long week in school--but a fun one--with all the typical American high school activities and the school work. We think there may also be a parade with class floats on Friday night--but that can neither be confirmed or denied at this point (timely phraseology for an election year). Stay tuned for Homecoming pictures next weekend. Two soccer matches this week: one on Thursday afternoon in Bethel and one at home for Homecoming on Saturday. That's the news from Prospect Avenue. Have a great week, everyone: we will.

Happy Birthday Part II (The Sequel)
The Falcon Soccer Teams both won their matches with neighboring Dirigo High School. Then Peter, Alexander (a.k.a., Pumpkin & Sunshine), and Rich (a.k.a., "Sir") went to dinner at the Mexico Chicken Coop. Afterwards, Connie arrived with chocolate cake...and, as they say, pictures are worth a 1000 words. Happy Birthday, Peter!
Happy Birthday, Peter!
Peter turns 17 today and enters his 18th year! Happy Birthday, Peter.
At 7:20am, Mom Mette called to wake up Peter and sing a birthday song (nice picture, Peter!). A few minutes later Dad Niels called wishing Peter a happy day.
Now, off to school and a soccer match. Dinner out and a cake with Connie and Ben later this evening.
Here's to a great day, Peter.
You're the best!

Peter's Match--Falcons' Second Team
The first match of the evening featuring the Falcon's Second Team and the Telstar Rebels' II ended in a draw (0-0). It was a great match with a lot of back and forth play. Peter (#16) played some hard defense and also moved the ball forward on offense in productive ways.

Alex's Injury
Just at the outset of the match against Bethel's Telstar Regional High School, Alex went down with an ankle injury.
